Privacy Policy for Markdown Studio & Markdown Room

Markdown Studio (Android) and Markdown Room (Windows) are the same application released under different names on each platform. This Policy applies equally to both.

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy ("Policy") explains how Markdown Studio and Markdown Room (hereinafter referred to as the "Operator", "we", or "our") handle information when you use our application.

We believe that privacy is a fundamental right. This Policy applies to all information that we may receive about users of our app.

Our Principles

2. Information We Collect (and Don't Collect)

Markdown Studio / Markdown Room is an offline reader and editor for Markdown files, and a reader for EPUB and PDF files that are already sitting in your device's folders. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your files or personal data.

No Accounts, No Sign-In

The app does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide an email address. We do not collect your name, contact details, or any personally identifiable information.

Your Files Stay on Your Device

Nothing you open, read, or edit is ever copied or uploaded anywhere. Your Markdown, EPUB, and PDF files are opened directly from their location on your device and are only ever written back to that same device. We never see, receive, or store a copy of your files or their contents.

Images Referenced in Markdown

If a Markdown file you open contains a link to an image hosted online, the app fetches that image directly from the URL written in your file so it can be displayed inline. This request goes straight from your device to the image's own source, it does not pass through, or get logged by, our servers.

On-Device PDF Export

The PDF export feature runs entirely on your device. The document you export is generated locally and saved to your device's storage, it is never sent to us or any third party.

Purchases

On Windows, Markdown Room is a paid app that you buy directly through the Microsoft Store, which processes that payment for us. On Android, Markdown Studio is unlocked through an in-app purchase handled entirely by Google Play Billing. In both cases, we do not receive or store your payment details (such as card numbers), we only get a confirmation from the store that your purchase was made, so the app can unlock accordingly.

3. How We Use Information

Because we do not collect your files or personal data, there is no personal information for us to use. The only network activity the app performs on your behalf is fetching images that your own Markdown files link to, so they can be displayed within the app, and verifying your purchase confirmation with the Microsoft Store or Google Play Billing so the app can unlock.

4. When We Disclose Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data, we have none to sell. We do not receive your files, so we have nothing to disclose to any third party. The only information shared is your purchase confirmation, handled directly by the Microsoft Store on Windows or Google Play Billing on Android. We may disclose information if required to do so by law.

5. Security Measures

Because the app reads, edits, and exports your files entirely on your device, your documents are never transmitted to or stored on our servers, eliminating the risk of your files being intercepted or exposed through us.

6. Children's Privacy

Our Services are not directed to individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as we expand our Services or to comply with legal requirements. We encourage you to check this page periodically for updates within the app.
